For those of you who haven't seen it, "The Harlem Shake" has taken the world by viral storm. Not unlike certain STD's, it has spread with a terrifying intensity.
The basic idea behind the video is that a single person does something in the presence of other people, who all act as if nothing crazy is going on. Flash to the next scene - and everyone is doing some crazy dance involving props together.
I'll admit, I was amused the first time I saw it. And there were even a couple of funny spin-offs, like the UGA Men's Swim and Dive Team.
It was funny because it was so stupid. But there's also only so much stupid a person can take.
Earlier this week, I received an automotive industry newsletter - with a link to dealerships across the country that have done their own version.
Click here to witness the shame.
Unfortunately, I believe that the "cure" to these "viral storms" will only be found in the next "big thing"....like "Gangnam Style."
Here's my vow to you. As long as I'm the Director of Marketing for Carter Chevrolet and Mazda of Manchester, there will be no Harlem Shake.
Sadly, that's going to do little to save the rest of the world.
I may not sleep tonight.
You're spot on; it's pretty funny, for now, but will surely fade quickly. The first one I saw was a college Ultimate Frisbee team on a flight to a competition. Fear not, the seatbelt sign was OFF. For the most part it's just kids being kids, having some completely harmless fun, with some adults occasionally joining in. There is so much worse that they could be involved in. What I watch any time I need a chuckle is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhBoZJhfxXY It's only funny because the 'falling tree' suffered NO concussion or other physical damage and re-entered the game a couple minutes later after being checked by the Doc. Enjoy! Steve
