Boxing as Social Enterprise

Non-profit boxing club.

Manchester Ring of Champions Society (ROCS) is an old style boxing club, now open to men and women of all ages. We continue to host our non-profit youth boxing program directed by legendary boxing coach Paul Cichon. The adult members get in great shape, have fun and the membership dues help fund the youth program. A real win, win, win! Feel good! Look good! Do good!

There is a general workout that one follows when training for boxing, and this workout is structured by a boxing timer. The timer provides 3 minute rounds with a 1 minute break and runs continuously all day. Boxers train with this clock as a way to properly condition the body for a boxing match, while non-boxing members use it as a way to structure and measure their workout.

The workout consists of warm ups, stretching, jumping rope, shadow boxing, heavy bag, speed bag, focus mitts with trainer, sparring (only if desired), and cool down. You will be taught this workout on your very first day. This basic workout is the foundation upon which all training is based and lays the groundwork for new elements and skills to be added as you progress.

If you wish to spar at any point, you will work with a trainer who will transition you to the necessary level. Not everyone decides to spar, and it is not frowned upon if one doesn’t. Manchester ROCS teaches each member the skills and training they need, and the member decides what they want to do with it. Some people may just want to hit the heavy bag without even using the timer, which is fine, but we teach each member the whole circuit so they can add more to their workout as they see fit.

Stop by and check us out. Whether you want to go a few rounds or just look like you could. On Saturday, February 16th at 9 a.m. at 52 Main Street, Manchester we will kick off our women's boxing classes. Instructors: Kate Nicholas and Leah Giddix Biron. Join us for a 1-hour trial training class. A $5 donation to the youth program is requested.
