The Glow From the Phones Lessens the Glow From the Movie Experience!

My movie theater-going experience has changed forever - since the advent of cell-phones!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, or think that I've seen it all . . . but here's a new one.

As we've become so dependent on our cell phones, games, connection to the world 24/7, its made its way into the movie theater.

The beautiful darkness that surrounds the patron as they await their big-screen experience - the glorious scenes, the fast-paced action, the flowing hills, fantastic animation - whatever your desire . . . has now taken second place to someone who sits in front of you with their cell phone.

Oh, they turn off the ringer. That's not the problem. However, the minute they get bored with the movie, or their child gets fidgety, or they MUST check their messages (gosh there must be a ton of surgeons at the movies on call), the glow from their seat is impressive no matter how far away your seat may be.

Now, I'm a backseater. I like sitting in the last row. I don't like people behind me, rattling papers, sipping the bottom of their 50 ounce soda like they hadn't gotten it all, or TALKING!!! So, I purposefully sit in the back row. Now I have the perfect view – of all the cell phones offering oh-so-important messages, a game for the kid who has no interest in the movie, or whatever.

Stop it. Stop it now. I politely asked the woman in front of me to "please turn off your phone," and she did. Others . . .not so much. So courtesy in the movie theater, the last bastion of large-group civility - shot to hell by cell phone addicts (CPAs).

And theater's wonder why they're not getting crowds any more. First, there are no more Harry Potter movies. Second, why sit in a theater abused by CPA's if no one obeys the rules, inforces the rules, or has any common sense? I can sit at home andwatch On-Demand, Red Box movies, or upload them otherwise. I don't care about seeing a movie a month after it opens in the theaters.

I'm just going to miss that popcorn-smelling, ticket in my hand, big cup holder experience.
