Finding Time to Feed Your Soul
Letting out the theater-geek, er . . . volunteer in you, find out how!
Volunteering is in my blood. My parents and grandparents were all ordained ministers in The Salvation Army. Now, don't be confused, The Salvation Army is both a church and a social service agency. So, thus my point about volunteering. In my professional life, I've always gravitated to volunteer-based organizations. There's something so passionate and energetic about people who love a mission so much that they'll fulfill that mission without any benefit or compensation.
It's a beautiful thing to watch, and moreso to do. I've worked for the American Lung Association, The Salvation Army, Easter Seals, Malta House of Care, and for the past four years, the Little Theatre of Manchester. Truly . . . a very different skill set here at the theater, but passionate and energetic nonetheless. Watching the sets get built, painted, set up, decorated, then accessorized by actors, directors, lights, sound and then reacted to by an audience.
It's thrilling to see this "baby" come to life four times a years - five next year since we've added an additional show! A volunteer recruitment day has been planned for Saturday, August 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with tours of the Hall. Come and see what all the theatrical fuss is all about . . . you'll be glad you did! Cheney Hall, 177 Hartford Rd., Manchester.
