“What I learned During an Eye Exam, that I can Use in My Mortgage Practice”

I am always tinkering with the way I take a mortgage application and if I do say so, I do it very well. I make sure I request everything that will be needed to get the transaction completed and what they can expect throughout the process.

My regular eye doctor moved his practice and merged with a larger group, so I made a decision to find someone closer. I had gotten a couple of recommendations and ended up meeting a new eye doctor. We went through the normal process, pretty much like a mortgage application, but I immediately realized there was something different going on.

All was being explained to me and then, something more. What was being explained is “WHY”. Why this needed to be done and why the information was necessary. It hit me like a ton of bricks, I explained the process to my clients and what was needed, but not why it was needed. I was not explaining, why the lender needed this or that.

I decided to put the “Why” to work. I took a mortgage application today, went through all the necessary information, but added why the lender needed this or that. It was amazing, there just seemed to be a calm when we were all done. It is not uncommon for me to get positive comments at the end of a mortgage application, but there was an understanding. I felt the client had an understand of what would be happening all along the way and why.

Before I left the doctor’s office, I let her know, that she gave me a wonderful gift today, even more important that an eye exam.
