“Three Mortgages, Can Cause Marriage Problems”
I started a mortgage application for Bob and Theresa a few months back. In the middle of the application process, they got into a rather heated discussion about which mortgages to pay off.
Apparently Theresa started a business that failed after 3 years. The second and third mortgage came as a result of the failed business. What made the most sense was putting all three mortgages into one mortgage which would save a bunch of money.
Bob said, “no way are we going to include the two mortgages that happened as a result of your failed business”. He said, “you caused the debt you make the payments”. This was getting nowhere fast. I asked Bob if he signed on the two mortgages, he said he did, but that doesn’t matter.

I suggested that they should discuss this further on their own. His comment, “we’ll discuss it alright”. I decided to take a shot and asked if they knew a professional that they would be willing to talk to. Theresa said, “no, but would love a referral”. This is really a slippery slope. OK, I will send you a recommendation.
Over my many years in the mortgage business I have worked with professionals that do family and marriage counseling. I sent referral to Bob and Theresa, hoping that they would be receptive.

This week I completed their mortgage application. Bob had called me last week, letting me know that they were ready to move forward. Then he said, “I’m sorry I was such an ass when we got together last time. We are indebted to you”.
Their monthly savings was $656 per month, but most importantly, they seemed to have their marriage back on the “Right Trac”.
