"Mortgages for Low and Moderate Income Families"

I keep reading article after article about communities promoting more lending to low and moderate income families. I am all in favor of folks having mortgages that can handle the payment, but not if the payments need to be subsidized.

Here is what I don’t understand. If these families don’t qualify, especially by the new “Qualified Mortgage” rules, the only way to get these families into a mortgage is going to be to subsidize the mortgage payments. Who is going to be paying for these subsidized payments? Does that mean we are going to add this to the already out of hand welfare that already exists in this country?

Unfortunately, the reality is, not everyone should own a home. To subsidize a mortgage payment, just doesn’t make any sense to me.
