“Grandparents Now Raising 3 Kids”

I have been doing mortgages for this couple for over 30 years. They called me recently to get a preapproval as they were going to downsize. It was time to get their larger home on the market and purchase something more manageable.

I referred them to a Realtor and they got their home on the market and started looking for another home. They found a home, put a deposit on the home, did the inspections and I put their financing together.

As they began the negotiations to sell their home, they got the shock of their life. Their daughter had let them know that her three children had been taken away from her. They immediately made arrangements to take the children in. I don’t know the details of why, but they put their home plans on hold.

Fortunately, their purchase was contingent upon the sale of their current home. By the time they settled back into their home it had cost them a few thousand dollars. They told me a few times during this crazy time period in their lives, they had to take the kids in and give them a good home. They never did mention their daughter, as it sounded like this had all happened before.
