"Couple Told They Do Not Have Healthcare Coverage"

I took my wife to her check up to make sure that her shoulder was healing properly, by the way she is doing great, definitely ahead of schedule.

While waiting to be seem, this couple came to check in. While waiting someone came out of the office to let these folks know they were not covered and the couple could not be seem. I couldn’t believe we were actually listening to this rather than their conversation being held in private.

They said they had to sign up on the Obamacare website a couple of months ago and they should be covered. They said they paid their premium online, so what was the problem, what a mess. The conversation was getting heated and besides being angry were really embarrassed. They stormed out of the office.

When we got in to see the doctor and the exam was over, I told the doctor what happened and asked why it was necessary to have this kind of discussion in such a public place, rather than in private and are there issues with folks thinking they are covered and they are not.

The doctor told us, the coverage issue is happening a lot, but usually the folks are called prior to the actual appointment, but apparently this one was missed.

I can only imagine the frustration that folks are running into with situations like this. How are these issues resolved? What if they need care before these issues are resolved?
