“Borrower was Upset that I wasn’t at their Closing”

I don’t recall the last time I was at a client’s closing, it has been years. I have been asked a number of times by clients, asking if I will be at the closing with them and have said no, but always let them know if there are any issues that show up, this is my cell number, call me.

The biggest challenge would be is distance, I do mortgages in 8 states, CT, MA, RI, ME, NH, VT, NY and FL. When my clients are somewhat local to me, I let them know that I will not be at the completion of their transaction, but am available by phone, if there is an issue.

The only reason I became aware of the upset, was that they referred me to friends and they mentioned it. So, it was an opportunity to contact them, thank them for the referral and address the upset.

They were great on the phone, but wanted to address their upset. I thanked them for their trust and confidence by referring their friends. I was looking for a hint of upset, but wasn’t reading it. I told them their friends were coming in to do their mortgage application and that they mention you were upset about me not being at your closing.

They both laughed, that is not exactly what we said, we told them not to expect to see you at the closing, as you had told us that at the time of our applications. Wow, that wasn’t quite what I expected and was delighted with the response.

I was delighted that they heard what I said at their application, but what they repeated didn’t quite come out with the right message. It is all good.
