Manchester GOP: Where the Rubber Hits the Road

Director Mark Tweedie and political newcomer Patrick Greene appear on Manchester Review in October to argue that a Republican majority will bring fiscal sanity to Manchester.  Greene and Tweedie both run small businesses. They say that when the rubber hits the road, Manchester Republicans know what to do. They cite the GOP accomplishments when they were in the majority:

  • Budgets were conservative and taxes were restrained (2008-2009 Fiscal Year: 2.9%; 2009-2010 Fiscal Year: 1.9%) without significantly cutting services

  • The Redevelopment Commission was expanded and re-energized leading to the  Parkade Redevelopment Project

  • A business advocate position was established to help small businesses get started

  • Tipping fees were waived for new businesses moving into downtown

  • Tax incentives were provided to help Vision Technologies to expand

  • Our current BOD Democrats are very nice people and deserve thanks for their service to the Town, but they appear to have the same  fiscal disability our Governor has- they can’t help spending more money and increasing taxes. The property tax increase this year was a whopping 4.6% even after the emergency fund was tapped for almost a million dollars. The tax hike was done with little regard for taxpayers struggling with fixed incomes and declining wages. The November municipal election provides an opportunity to bring back fiscal responsibility.Tweedie and Greene, along with newcomer and businessman Tim Devanney, Bert Gay, and incumbents Susan Holmes and Cheri Pelletier hope to replace the democratic majority on the Board of Directors and get down to business building a more efficient Town government and lowering taxes. In addition they plan to investigate the feasibility of rubberizing our Town roads to reduce noise and costs, develop additional strategies to encourage business  growth in Manchester and re-evaluate the multitude of Town Commissions and Boards. Tweedie, Greene and Devanney all have business experience to bring to the table.
