It's Been Very Civil, But They Are Still Spending Our Money

Given the election coming up on Nov 5, let’s set the stage. I grew up in CT and I love it, but its become a State that is a bad place to do business and to live. Connecticut takes 1st or 2nd place on some lists where you don’t want to be at the top:
  • Taxes: State taxes are high: Malloy tapped us for a 1.8 billion tax hike and it’s still not enough (Connecticut taxpayers work until May 13th-latest nationally- to pay their total tax bill.

  • Unfunded Pension Liability #2. CT at 190% (%of state revenue)

  • CT ranked worst for economic growth, worst for retirement, worst for financial shape

So what?  How does that translate  to a municipal election? Only about 30% of registered voters will turn out, if that. This is unfortunate since municipal elections have more impact on our daily lives than some national elections. This voter apathy will likely lead to more of the same: a democrat dominated BOD and BOE in Manchester.

Now I know many of our current BOD Democrats- they  are very nice people and deserve thanks for their service to the Town, but we need a break. They appear to have the same  fiscal disability our Governor has- they can’t help spending more money and increasing taxes. The property tax increase this year was a whopping 4.6% even after the emergency fund was tapped for almost a million dollars. It was all very civil but the tax hike was done with little regard for taxpayers struggling with fixed incomes and declining wages. The November municipal election provides an opportunity to bring fiscal responsibility back to Manchester.

Manchester Republicans have some answers. Mark Tweedie, Director and Patrick Greene, BOD candidate explain the GOP platform and GOP accomplishments on Manchester Review in October. Tune in on Mondays at 9 PM or check them out on YouTube (google: Manchester GOP Election 2013 PARTS I AND II).
