Gizmo Goes "Out To Pasture" (And Other Doglet Thoughts...)

Gizmo, Patch's Manchester and Central CT Top Dog, blogs about area events and rescue efforts. Sources say he also enjoys hamburgers.

And hi.  I’m Gizmo, the (3.5 pound) blogging doglet.  I usually start out by blogging about a fun area event so all you Patch readers out there will know about it. Today is different.  I will still tell you about an event that is happening in our area.  A very, very important event. But this event happens every single day, around the clock, without fail.  It’s happening as you read this.  It’s happening with love and compassion and dedication.  And most of us don’t even know it’s going on.  And, more importantly, we can participate anytime we want!

I met a new fren this week.   Her name is Carrie, and she is the founder of Out To Pasture Farm and Rescue.  When Carrie learned that Gizmo’s Frens, Inc. had heard about her farm, she didn’t miss a beat. She invited us out to visit and learn about her work and about the animals who live there.  Carrie worked as a groomer for years while she saved up money to build her dream of a safe haven
for animals.  Carrie’s husband, who is in construction, used reusable items from other projects he was working on to build a beautiful, big house where they could live with cats and dogs and birds who need them.   When a horse needed help, they built a barn and corrals to help them too.

Today Out To Pasture is home to 80 animals who, without Carrie’s willingness to save them, would have been euthanized.  From cats to dogs to sheep and horses, OTP provides a loving home where these animals can be cared for in comfort until their time comes.  All the cats and dogs live inside the house. Most wear diapers, need their bladders depressed regularly, and are medically fragile.  They
all have their own stories of abuse and abandonment, but thanks to Carrie and her program, all their stories end with finding a truly magical forever home.  A home where they are accepted and protected as they deserve to be.   A home where everybody (remarkably) gets along and celebrates life.   And yes, a home where the best spot on the couch is still prime property.

Carrie does not utilize volunteers because (as I found out) a visitor in the house causes the animals to become so excited to meet a new fren, that giving meds and treatments becomes virtually impossible. So she does all the care herself.  She even uses homeopathic methods on some of the animals, such as acupuncture and other healing treatments.

And she does not take a salary from funds raised to cover the 7,000 dollars a month required to run the program.  Everything goes directly to the animals’care.

Out To Pasture, I learned, is a home for angels, run by angels. They not only ease pain. They touch hearts.

So, how can you participate in this event?  You can visit their website.  Really take a look. Get to know them and their animals and their work.  Purchase an item off their wish list or donate if you wish. And spread the word.  Go here to participate: www.outtopasture.org

And you can participate by coming to the Manchester Pet Supplies Plus on Sunday, October 21, from 11 to 2.  Gizmo and Gizmo’s Frens, Inc. will be there
raising awareness and funds for Out To Pasture.  100% of all donations will go directly to help our OTP frens.  Cuz we’re frens!

Hey listen! Would you like to send a message of encouragement to OTP Farm and Rescue?  Or do you have a Gizmo T-shirt you like to wear from one of our fundraisers?  Or would you like to share about a rescue that is doing exsillent things for animals? Please leave a comment! We love to hear from our frens!

Sined, The Gizmo.
