CRT Savings Program

A Penny Saved is Two Pennies Earned with CRT Savings Program: The decision to buy a first home is not an easy one. But a program offered by Community Renewal Team, Inc. offers advice, a helping hand - and up to $3,000 - to area residents who’d like the key to their own front doors.

CRT’s Individual Development Account program matches a participant’s own savings with $2 for every $1 that’s deposited. Over the course of three years, participants can deposit up to $1,500 and earn a match of $3,000. Spouses may each enroll in the program. In addition, IDA customers develop healthy saving habits and learn the ins and outs of mortgages, credit and other fiscal responsibilities during the monthly “Savings Club” sessions. On June 22 at 6:30 p.m., members of the CRT Common Cents Team will provide an information session co-sponsored by the Town of Manchester Office Neighborhoods and Families.

The meeting will be at the new East Side Public Safety Youth Center (the old Spruce Street Firehouse) at 153 Spruce St., Manchester. Parking is available across the street at Nathan Hale School. Light refreshments will be served. For more information call 860-560-5149. CRT, a federally-designated anti-poverty agency, helps people in Hartford and Middlesex Counties become successful and self-sufficient. Programs include Head Start, Meals on Wheels and Senior Cafés, Energy Assistance, homeless shelters and supportive housing, financial literacy and income tax preparation, affordable housing and employment services.
