Heritage Day - 100th Anniversary of Homeland Day Celebration

Join us for a spectacular day as we celebrate our Heritage with opening ceremonies at Cheney Hall, starting at 10 a.m with music by The Salvation Army ensemble on the patio, and then at 10:30 a.m. come inside historic Cheney Hall to hear from our guest speaker, John Sutherland, retired history professor from MCC and honor our Hometown Heroes (it's a surprise!).

Then the Manchester Pipe Band will march us to the corner of Elm Street and Hartford Road where we'll cut a ribbon and head back to 1914 for a 100th anniversary celebration of what Ruth Cheney envisioned.  She created a beautiful parade of countries and a huge dancing and music event at Center Park.  But, we're going to hold forth on Hartford Road and give people a chance to enjoy the beautiful Great Lawn and the Historical Society properties across the street.

Bring your picnic basket, blanket and chairs, listen to music from local groups and talented individuals, visit booths from our churches, organizations and crafters, enjoy the simple pleasures of hotdogs and lemonade from the Elks Club, play games from 1914 and so much more.  See plein air painters on site creating works of art.  See a fire truck from 1914 and learn more about that!  Take a ride on a horse-drawn wagon.  There's something for everyone, and other events going on within walking distance as well.

Sponsored by the SBM Charitable Foundation.  And, a special commemorative blanket will be available to purchase for $20, thanks to a grant from Fuss & O'Neill!  Dress like you're going to Downton Abbey and we'll meet you there!

Parking available at Cheney Hall, Fuss & O'Neill and South United Methodist Church (for a small fee).  Rain event will bring activities inside Cheney Hall.  For more information: www.townofmanchester.org/prideandheritage.
