Meet Patrick Greene, Republican Candidate For the Manchester Board of Directors

Learn about this candidate for the Manchester Board of Directors.

Full name: Patrick Greene

Education (colleges/degrees): Assumption College, bachelor’s degree in Management and a minor in economics.

Work: Greene Moving and Storage.

Why do you want to be on the Manchester Board of Directors? I want to serve on the Manchester Board of Directors because I am concerned about the direction of the town my family has called home since the 1930’s. The people of Manchester deserve better leadership than they are getting from the current Board of Directors. Most recently, the 5.1% increase in spending was far greater than the cost of living increase, and did not take in to consideration Manchester resident’s ability to pay for it when their own personal expenses are going up and their income is not.  I am concerned that I have seen a substantial increase in my business of families moving out of town to search for better education experiences for their children, and seniors are moving out because they can no longer afford the constant increase in their property taxes. I will work tirelessly to ensure this exodus stops and people remain in town because it is a great value for them.

What experience do you bring to the table?  As the General Manager of my family business, I have navigated the company through the housing market crash and have come out of it without having forced any layoffs nor have a decline in quality of work. I was able to do that by working harder and smarter to find cost savings, create efficiencies, and eliminate duplication of efforts. I would bring this same skill set to the Board of Directors.  I will roll up my sleeves and ensure that we maintain the level of services we are accustomed to in Manchester while making it more affordable for the taxpayers and not put undue tax burdens on the people who are already struggling to make ends meet.

What do you think the town's most pressing issue is? As I knock on doors across the community the most pressing issue the people are talking about is taxes. This last increase really hurt people. I can’t begin to tell you how many people were fed up and questioning whether they can afford to stay in town anymore. The burden being put upon the town residents is effecting everyone; the young family whose incomes are not going up at the same rate their taxes are, or the seniors who got a 1.7% increase in Social Security, and as of this morning we found out are only getting a 1.5% increase in 2014, however their tax burden went up 4.6% We are pricing out the residents of this town and if this continues we will lose many great residents.

The people in town want responsible budgets that take in to consideration the town’s ability to pay. A close second pressing issue would be the redevelopment of Broad Street. The overwhelming response I get to what people would like to see developed there is that the residents wants something that creates jobs, contributes to the tax rolls to lessen the homeowner’s burden, and enhances the experience of living in Manchester.

What do you love most about Manchester? What I love most about Manchester is the people. I love being anywhere in town and running in to someone you know and engaging in friendly conversation. Although Manchester is a large town, I really enjoy the small town feel. There are a lot of residents who have been in town for several decades and great bonds have been formed.

Manchester has a great track record of taking care of their own, when someone in Manchester is down on their luck the whole town rallies behind that person and helps them get on their feet. I have seen too many examples of this to list in this short response.  The residents of Manchester are our town’s treasure and if elected I will make it my top priority to make sure these people stay in town.

What do you like to do for fun? I am an avid sports fan, and for fun I enjoy coaching football at the high school level, although I have taken a leave from that for the time being. Last year my girlfriend, Jenna, began teaching me to snowboard. I believe with one more year of practice I’ll be able to make it down the hill without falling but that is yet to be determined. I am somewhat of a “foodie” and enjoy trying new restaurants, Manchester is certainly a great place to try new and diverse restaurants.

How can residents keep up with you? Email address? Website? Facebook page? Twitter? Instagram? Etc. I can be reached at Patrick@Greenemovingandstorage.com.
