UPDATE: Forecast Calls for Snow Wednesday Afternoon

The Manchester area is expected to see anywhere from one to five inches of snow Wednesday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a mix of rain, snow and sleet in the Manchester area through early Thursday morning. 

At about 4 a.m. Thursday moring the weather is expected to turn to a mix of rain and sleet, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday is expected to bring a mix of rain, snow and sleet again, becoming primarily snow after 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Accumulation of less than half an inch is expected.

The Manchester 2020 Recommendation Roll-Out meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight has been cancelled. The meeting will now take place on Tuesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. at the .

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has announced plans to partially activate the state's Emergency Operations Center at the State Armory in Hartford at noon Wednesday in anticipation of the arrival of the afternoon snow storm. 

“After assessing the situation with emergency management officials and key agency Commissioners this morning, we will partially activate the EOC at noon today to allow us to monitor conditions across the state,” Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said in a satement. “Although this will not be a major storm, the timing of the storm is of concern—it will very likely cause delays as people are heading home this evening. We’ve not seen a lot of snow accumulation this winter, so we want to remind people to take it easy on the roads and drive cautiously.”

Manchester Public Schools have announced they will be closing early Wednesday due to the storm. Manchester High School will dismiss at 12:05 p.m.; Bennet Academy and Illing Middle School at 12:45 p.m.; and all elemetary schools at 1:15 p.m. 

East Catholic High School will also be dismissing early, at 11:30 a.m. 

Howell Cheney Technical High School has also announced plans to close early.

The National Weather Service has declared a Winter Weather Advisory for Wednesday afternoon into Thursday, as a wintery mix is expected to arrive early in the afternoon Wednesday and drop a forecasted two to five inches of snow on the area. 

The advisory is in effect for northern Connecticut and northwest Rhode Island, including Hartford County from noon Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. 

Snow is forecasted to begin about 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, and the Manchester area could see accumulation of two to five inches. It remains to be seen if schools in the area will be dismissed early because of the anticipated snowfall. Temperatures are expected to be in the 30s Wednesday. 

The National Weather Service says the front will bring snow, sleet and freezing rain, which could be heavy during the evening commute, but which is expected to change to sleet and freezing rain Wednesday evening and could linger into early Thursday morning.
