Shays Says Repeal Obamacare

Candidate for U.S. Senate Christopher Shays says we need to repeal Obamacare.

Today Christopher Shays, Republican candidate for United States Senate released this statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision on Obamacare.

"The Supreme Court's decision to uphold the constitutionality of the individual healthcare mandate just reaffirms the need to send someone to the United States Senate who has the ability to repeal this destructive law.  Obamacare is one of the worst government infringements on our individual liberties and personal freedoms in my generation. This was a power grab of the U.S. health care system by Chris Murphy, a Democratic Congress and the Obama Administration.

The Supreme Court ruled that the President’s healthcare plan is constitutional based on the fact that the individual mandate is a tax, in spite of the fact that the Democrat-controlled Congress and the Administration repeatedly insisted it was not a tax. This hypocrisy is why Americans have a right to be fed up with Washington.

Obamacare is increasing health insurance premiums, reducing patient choice, threatening the quality of care, and impeding medical progress. On top of that, six years of Obamacare ‘benefits’ are paid for with ten years of taxes.

Obamacare takes $500 billion away from Medicare, a vital program for our senior citizens that was already heading for insolvency, and uses it for other purposes.

Now more than ever we need experienced leaders who can navigate the process so that we can repeal the President’s so-called “Affordable Healthcare Act.”

The federal government does have a role in healthcare, such as Medicare, Medicaid, community-based healthcare programs, and providing healthcare to veterans, and active military. But a federal mandate was always the wrong approach. We need a patient/doctor approach that promotes both quality care and cost savings and allows citizens within each state to determine the kind of healthcare programs they want. The right direction for healthcare reform includes tort reform, healthcare pooling and purchase across state lines.

If I’m elected to the United States Senate I am determined to repeal Obamacare, and I have the experience and knowledge to do it.”

I'm glad Mr. Shays made his position clear. It is one more reason not to vote for him.

Mangilla, you wrote a very interesting comment. The right wing's fanatical obsession with villifying a program that would provide affordable health care to their uninsured fellow citizens is mystifying, is it not? What are they really so angry about? Could it be that they perceive the Affordable Care Act as providing health care to "poor people," people who are not like them. It doesn't even seem to matter to them that most of these poor people work. I think we have found the answer. If it was a upper or middle-class entitlement, most would be all for it. But because the program will help mostly poorer working Americans, they don't like it.

Gregory, you are wrong. It is not weather or not a woman can have an abortion that bothers some, it is that many want our tax dollars to pay for it as a means of birth control.
Spend tax dollars on a medically necessary abortion is OK with me. When a woman chooses to have an abortion simply because she does not want the child then she should have to pay for it, not everyone else

The supreme court did not rule on the entire act only on the constitutionallity of the individual mandate. The ruling is was that it was because it is a tax (the president and democrats have insisted it was a fine not a tax).
This ruling does not mean the act is a good thing.
Rick McDonald July 3, 2012 at 02:00 pm
Again Kristine, the supreme court ruled it is allowable if it is a tax. President Obama has insisted all along that it is not a tax. I bet he will call it one now!
If he had any integrity he would come out and nix the mandate on the grounds that it is a fine, as he has insisted, and not a tax.
Rick McDonald July 3, 2012 at 02:04 pm
In all fairness if she is going to comment on a comment and not the article it is completely normal to expect a response when a comment is addressed to her
Spiff July 3, 2012 at 02:09 pm
Richard, Unfortunately Obama doesn't have any integrity, and that is why he says one thing and does another. Don't expect him to develop some anytime soon, however, and that is why we are in this mess that we are, because too many people took him at his word. Hopefully there will be enough people this November who have recognized the charlatan that he is!
Rick McDonald July 3, 2012 at 02:16 pm
What precentage of the average annual wage is $300.00 in Jamaica? Numbers mean nothing if not put in prespective. That amounts to less than a weeks wage for most working americans. Please tell me how long it takes most Jamaican's to earn $300.00
Rick McDonald July 3, 2012 at 02:21 pm
Again you misrepresent the decision. The decision had nothing to do with the act as a whole, it was about the individual mandate only. The ruling was that it was constitutional if it was a tax which President Obama says it is not. This means that the ruling actually means the mandate as presented to the public as a fine for non-compliance is not constitutional
Lydia July 3, 2012 at 02:43 pm
Kristine: They're not complaining because it's OBAMA. You can BET your ass that if Bush had started this Healthcare Act there wouldn't be so much argument against it from them. They are crucifying Justice Roberts because he followed logic and the law. Most of the people that are bitching about this law don't even really know anything about it.
Spiff July 3, 2012 at 02:48 pm
Richard, My understanding is that it was presented by Obama's lawyers to the court as potentially both, a fine and/or a tax. It was found to be unconstitutional as a fine but not as a tax. So, that means that Obama and his fellow cronies have been lying to you (and everyone else) all along. While they told us it wasn't a tax (and they're still saying this), they told the Supreme Court that it was. But, what would you expect from the biggest scumbag that was ever afforded the opportunity to live in the white house. The Liar in Chief has gotta go. "ABO 2012" (Anyone But Obama)

Your assumptions are so far out there, just like your radical views. I AM A NAVY VETERAN and I think you are the rude one. I have friends that are liberal and they are respectful, and we disagree a lot, but are discussions are civil.
Joel July 3, 2012 at 03:31 pm
Might be a little off topic, but I thought it was interesting anyway.
Campaign promises made by Obama: Obama promised to prevent drug companies from blocking generic drugs… Broken Obama promised he would shutdown Guantanamo Bay… Broken Obama promised not to raise any taxes… Broken Obama promised to enact cap-and-trade to reduce carbon in the atmosphere… Broken Obama promised to restrict the influence of lobbyists… Broken Obama promised to let the Bush-tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans expire… Broken Obama promised to make employers automatically enroll employees in 401(k) and IRA investments… Broken Obama promised to reform our immigration laws… Broken Obama promised No Super PACs…Broken Obama promised a Robust and Balanced Program of Space Exploration and Scientific Discovery… Broken Obama Guaranteed that employees get at least 7 paid sick days per year… Broken Read on.
Joel July 3, 2012 at 03:32 pm
Those are some things he didn't do… Read one of the wonderful things he is doing.
A critical document from President Barack Obama's free trade negotiations with eight Pacific nations reveals that the administration intends to bestow radical new political powers upon multinational corporations, contradicting prior promises. Under the agreement currently being advocated by the Obama administration, American corporations would continue to be subject to domestic laws and regulations on the environment, banking and other issues. But foreign corporations operating within the U.S. would be permitted to appeal key American legal or regulatory rulings to an international tribunal. That international tribunal would be granted the power to overrule American law and impose trade sanctions on the United States for failing to abide by its rulings. That's nice.
Spiff July 3, 2012 at 03:42 pm
Yes Joel, so Obama is a liar! What's new! It's funny how the left recognizes this as (as Maria and Al Gore would say) an inconvenient truth. Unfortunately with them, the ends justify the means.
Maria Giannuzzi July 3, 2012 at 04:14 pm
I think the President decided to expend all his political capital getting the Affordable Care Act passed. I also believe he should have fought harder to implement his other promises. Without the broad support of the American people it would have been very difficult to overcome the immense power of the corporate lobby and the far-right in this country. And, as we have seen on Patch, there have been many Americans who have villified him from his first day in office. Perhaps if those criticizing him on this thread had strongly supported his proposals instead of obsessing about where the President was born, he might have been more successful.
Maria Giannuzzi July 3, 2012 at 04:16 pm
I thought that the U.S. negotiated the same type of trade agreement with the Europeans--under a Republican President.
Maria Giannuzzi July 3, 2012 at 04:31 pm
The "Path To Prosperity," really? And prosperity for whom? Ryan's wealthy contributors? I hope people understand that many pieces of proposed legislation are written by or have strong input from lobbyists. It would be interesting to learn who Ryan's major campaign contributors are.
I've heard news reports that Ryan maintains that drastically cutting social welfare programs is in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Those reports can't be true. No one would make such a foolish remark.

He killed Osama bin Laden
Passed the Lilly Ledbetter Act Passed a massive stimulus that basically saved the economy. He saved the auto industry He is a moral and decent man and has remained calm and positive in spite of the tremendous hate the Republicans have spattered towards him He has shown the ability to return America to it's position of prominence on the world stage since taking office. After the Republicans shattered the image of America, Obama had to appologize to the world for the incompetence and arrogance of the previous administration He was awarded the nobel peace prize for showing such humility and wisdom. You know Joel, it isn't Obamas fault you're life is messed up. It is your fault.
Maria Giannuzzi July 3, 2012 at 04:41 pm
But then there is the really, really big lie--weapons of mass destruction--that led to a war. But it wasn't President Obama's lie, was it? And the ends did not justify the means.
Joel July 3, 2012 at 04:43 pm
I get the same response from my sister who is an Obama supporter. It's not his fault. It's either George W. Bush's fault or the republicans have thwarted his every attempt at Hope and Change. I know one thing that has changed, his opinion of Super PACs and lobbyists.
Rick McDonald July 3, 2012 at 05:18 pm
Roberr,
Killed Osama? No, he authorized the SEAL mission Passed massive stimulus that saved the economy? Sorta, he continued a stimulus plan that started in the Bush administration ( ie. he followed the Bush administration lead) Saved the auto industry? If companies had been allowed to fail someone else would have stepped in and picked up the pieces. Moral and Decent? Matter of opinion. In mine he has no integrity Apologies to the world? Again matter of opinion. I think he made the U.S. look weak by his apologies which I believe showed he does not believe in our country Nobel piece prize? It was given for his ideas not anything he did. Undeserved in my opinion. Maria, It was not Bush's lie either. It was the intelligence community who insisted there were WMD's. Bush acted on this information
Maria Giannuzzi July 3, 2012 at 05:26 pm
I'm afraid there is a dark side to American politics--always has been. But the dark side has gained ground in the past two decades as political campaigns have become costlier and costlier. The amounts are astronomical and continue to skyrocket. You can blame the current resident of the Oval Office or you can recognize that the real culprit is a system where huge amounts of cash are influencing outcomes.
Spiff July 3, 2012 at 05:31 pm
Yeah, and I wonder how much of it made it into Chief Justice Robert's pockets!
Joel July 3, 2012 at 07:26 pm
To Robert Bracer: You just proved with your last comment "You know Joel, it isn't Obamas fault you're life is messed up. It is your fault." that you need little or no information to post a comment. I am a perfectly happy conservative. Name calling is for petulant children and professional wrestlers. Grow up.

Maria and other statist "progressives" and leftists (DEMS) constantly practice "SIN," as described by Herman Cain, because their arguments fail on the grounds of logic and FACTS.
The "S" is for "Shift attention away from their hugely unpopular legislative blunders. [The "I"] They’re Ignoring the fact that their economic policies and programs are not working. And they’re Name-calling their critics to try to minimize their anticipated losses in the November elections." http://www.wnd.com/2010/09/202817/ Maria has the first two: "Shift the subject" and "Ignore the Facts" mastered, although she usually tries to restrain herself on the "Name-calling" of those with opposing views in direct ways--ad hominem attacks. But she does often proclaim her views to be superior and more compassionate, when the exact opposite is true!
MAC July 3, 2012 at 10:29 pm
As Herman Cain and others have suggested, the ACA would more appropriately be called "Obama Doesn't Care!!" This is true because Obama ultimately did not care what was in the 2,700 page law, but just that it passed and gave him his signature 'accomplishment.' He does not "care" that medical care will be rationed AND more expensive, that the middle class will bear the brunt of the TAX increases and some 20 NEW TAXES** and that the budget DEFICITS will be blown up instead of decreased!
** The CBO has admitted that some 77 % of the COSTS in higher premiums, penalties and the NEW and HIGHER TAXES of OBAMATAX will be born by those with incomes below $125,000! Maria's posts have become very tiresome, redundant and rebarbative to those of us who care about facts and TRUTH rather than hopeful opinions from those who worship at the altars of BIG government!

I had no idea, Robert, that Mr. Obama dropped in with Seal Team 6. What an amazing guy.
He made a decision - one that would honestly not have significant repercussions. For him at least. The most he had to worry about is an angry Pakistan. Big deal, Even a foreign policy amateur would know that Pakistan would rather not alienate the United States - the last thing they want is the US to forge stronger ties with India. The plus side - he can claim a win. If bin Laden was not there, we probably never would have heard of the operation. So what exactly was the downside for Mr. Obama? There was none.
Robert Bracer July 29, 2012 at 08:40 pm
Joel when you grow up come back instead of just typing FOX news talking points. You are what is wrong with America. Baa, baa, baa, baa.
Maria Giannuzzi July 30, 2012 at 01:30 pm
I really think it is inaccurate to call the Affordable Care Act "Obamacare." After all, it is my understanding that the Affordable Care Act is modeled after the Massachusetts health insurance program that was championed by Mitt Romney while he was Governor. It seems that Governor Romney is the true father of the Affordable Care Act. And if we are going to be accurate and fair, we should call the federal program "Romneycare."
