Fall Prevention

One out of every three adults over the age of 65 fall each year.  There are many things you can do to reduce the risk of falling:
1.) Exercise regularly to maintain leg strength and balance
2.) Check your medications 
3.) Get your annual eye exam 
4.) Decrease trip hazards (i.e., exposed wires, raised rugs, etc.) 
5.) Add grab bars in the bathroom
6.) Use raised toilet seat and/or use an arm rest 
7.) Use non-slip surfaces in the tub/shower 
8.) If necessary, use a shower chair in the shower 
9.) Place rails on the stairs 
10.) Repair loose floor boards and carpets 
11.) Store food and clothing in easy-to-reach areas 
12.) Store flashlights in easy-access locations 
13.) Place a lamp, phone, and flashlight near your bed 
14.) Wear sturdy, non-skid shoes 
15.) Do not walk in bare stocking feet
