TD Bank to Open First of Two Energy-Efficient Stores in Manchester

The new store's manager, Dawn Joyner, is also a Manchester resident.

To celebrate its newest retail store in Manchester, TD Bank will host a community grand opening celebration on Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new store located at 180 Deming St.

The new location is one of the first two energy efficient stores to target LEED certification in Connecticut. The other store is located in Wallingford, which is relocating and will also celebrate its grand opening on May 5 as well. The new Manchester store is TD’s 59th energy-efficient location across the bank’s Maine to Florida footprint.

The new TD Bank store will target LEED Platinum certification based on its overall environmental performance in six areas: the use of a sustainable site, low water usage, energy efficiency, the use of recycled materials, its indoor environmental air quality and its innovation and design.

TD Bank started building LEED-designed stores in 2010. These stores feature:

  • On average, the use of 50% less energy than TD Bank’s heritage store design.
  • The use of recycled content materials, reduced potable water use, construction waste recycling.
  • Daylight harvesting systems to turn the artificial lights off when there is enough sunlight.

“Not only are we committed to growing in the Connecticut market, but we are committed to being as green as our logo as we grow here,” said Joe Culos, SVP of Retail Banking for TD Bank’s Connecticut market. “Building stores that target LEED certification is not only good for the environment and the communities we serve – like Manchester – but it makes good business sense.”

To manage the new store and its 10 to 15 employees that are hired locally, TD Bank has tapped local resident Dawn Joyner for the job. As store manager, she will be responsible for new business development, consumer lending, and managing personnel and day-to-day operations.

Joyner started at TD Bank in 2006, and was promoted to store manager in 2008. She has managed the bank’s Simsbury and Sedgwick Plaza, West Hartford, retail locations since last year. Dawn, who lives in Manchester with her husband and daughter, has a deep history of community involvement in the communities she has worked in, and is currently researching and learning more about Manchester organizations to become actively engaged here, as well.

Entire families – including pets – are invited to participate at the grand opening celebration, which is free and open to the public and will feature:

  • Free hot dog cart, ice cream cart and soft drinks
  • DJ and balloon artist
  • Exciting games and prizes, including a chance for one lucky person to win two $500 gift cards to two local businesses – for possibly a bike or a grill to kick off summer!
  • Ribbon cutting ceremony at 12 p.m.
  • Donation presentation to Rebuilding Together Manchester by TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank
