Onyx Invites Gov. Malloy to Tour New Facility

The bill will allow Onyx Spirits Company to further expand its East Hartford distillery and offer tours and tastings to the public.

The makers of Onyx Moonshine are happy about the fact that House Bill- 6211, an act regarding the offering and tasting of distilled spirits, passed unanimously in both the Connecticut House of Representatives and the Connecticut State Senate.

The act, which the distilling company that recently moved from Manchester to East Hartford pushed for, and which was introduced by State Representative Geoff Luxenberg of Manchester, would allow distilleries such as theirs to offer tours and tastings on the premise of their facilities.

Under current law in Connecticut, only breweries and wineries are allowed to offer tastings where their products are produced.

“This is an exciting time for the craft spirits industry in Connecticut,” Onyx Spirits Co. co-founder Adam von Gootkin said in a statement.  “We eagerly await the ability to invite Connecticut residents, and visiting tourists to see how our Connecticut Moonshine is made.  Should Gov. Dannel P. Malloy sign the bill, he (along with the State Representatives and Senators that have supported this) will be the very first people we invite for a tour and moonshine tasting, and we can’t wait to host them."

Once the bill is signed, Onyx Spirits Company said it plans to build a 3,000 square foot tasting room and New England prohibition exhibit on its premises. Visitors will be able to tour the facility, learn about New England’s prohibition and moonshine history, and sample small tastings of Onyx Moonshine.
