New Karate School Opens in Downtown Manchester

The new school is located in the rear of 991 Main Street downtown.

Dragon Karate, a new martial arts school that teaches the practice of Shaolin Kempo Karate, opened Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 991 Main St. (rear) in Downtown Manchester.

Shaolin Kemp Karate is a unique style of martial arts that combines Shaolin Kung Fu, Kempo Karate and Jiu-Jitsu. It is a practical system of self-defense that is appropriate for students of all ages and physical abilities. Weapons training using bo staff, nunchuka and excrima will also be offered.

Dragon Karate owner, Cheryl L. Lewis, is looking forward to her new location and an opportunity to share her martial arts experience. Prior to opening Dragon Karate, Sensei Lewis taught for 8 years at Hidden Dragon Karate in Vernon where she trained with Master Rod Fuller – an award winning 7th degree black belt who has been inducted into multiple martial arts Halls of Fame. While at Hidden Dragon, she served as head instructor for weapons and the demo team.

Sensie Cheryl notes that instruction at Dragon Karate will embody the philosophy of the school motto: “ As Martial Artists: We lead by example, treating others the way we want to be treated. We do the right thing whether we want to or not. We use our self-control and take responsibility for our actions. We only use our martial arts when bodily harm comes our way.”
