Manchester Chamber in Exile

The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce will be operating out of the South United Methodist Church while the Floors at their Cheney Mansion Office on Hartford Road are being restored.

"Although it's not ideal, we are considering it our summer camp,” joked President Sue O'Connor about her temporary office space.

The chamber's offices have been housed in the mansion home of Frank Cheney for the past 30 years. Their landlord, , notified the chamber in May of their plans to refinish the floors throughout the historic home. In the meantime, the chamber will be sharing space at the South United Methodist Church's own offices at 1226 Main St.

“The Church has been very accommodating, The church gave up their own offices for us” O'Connor said.

Cox communications helped transfer the phone lines to cell phones that were provided by AT&T and the computers have been moved and set-up in the temporary office by Chris Meacham of Now it Works, who will hook-up the Chamber's computers again when the floor restoration is complete in August.

“Working with the Church on the floor restoration has been an easy process. The Chamber is very fortunate to have our offices in a historic Cheney home. It's a plus for Manchester,” Chamber Chairman Kathrine Kamerer of Kathrine's Hair Design at 695 Main St. noted.

Reverend John Marshall, the Pastor of South United Methodist Church, who was appointed on July first, added, “We are glad to help out and glad that the Chamber is flexible. It's working out well”.

The Manchester Chamber of Commerce will return to their offices at 20 Hartford Rd. in August. Meanwhile according to Chamber President Sue O'Connor “The work of the Chamber will continue.”
