Imagine Main Street to Host First Event Tonight

There will be a series of events held tonight on Main Street in town.

On Thursday evening, June 7, a comprehensive arts focused program of events is planned for downtown Manchester. In coordination with Pride in Manchester week, the Committee’s inaugural event is the first of a series of downtown neighborhood events planned for Main Street in Manchester. Starting in July, monthly First Friday events are also planned.

Imagine Main Street’s mission is to incorporate the rich cultural and historic heritage of Manchester with a new and creative arts culture. Imagine Main Street is a collaboration of representatives of the town of Manchester, Manchester Community College, the Downtown Special Services District, local business owners, non-profit organizations, artists and concerned citizens.

“Our goal is to enhance our already vibrant downtown with an increased focus on the Arts,” said Imagine Main Street’s Chairperson Steve Gates. “We envision downtown Manchester becoming a destination for the Arts and Arts related businesses.”

Program highlights for June 7 include art displays in downtown business storefronts by over 20 local artists, local musicians in several locations, the staging of several currently vacant storefronts on Main Street, the staging of new apartments at 867 Main St., and a brew tasting. There are many other events throughout the evening at venues along Main Street. Event attendees are encouraged to stop for a bite at local restaurants and visit downtown businesses open that evening.

“We’re particularly excited about the staging of the few vacant sites,” said Gates. “The goal is to stimulate our imaginations to the endless possibilities at these strategically located sites.”

The Arts focus will also be enhanced with the opening of this summer.
