The hotel will be located near the Manchester townline and, according to co-developer John Finguerra, will continue to fuel growth at the Evergreen/Buckland Hills shopping area, which is already the largest retail area in Connecticut with more than $1 billion annually in sales.
The 110-room, four floor hotel is being constructed by Cambria Suites. Rooms will be oversized, and feature separate living and sleeping areas. The hotel will also feature 800-square feet of meeting space, an indoor pool and fitness center, a restaurant and bar and outdoor patios off the pool and restaurant areas with fire pits. Golf cart transportation will also be available to guests who want to visit the nearby shops and restaurants at Evergreen.
“Cambria Suites is a terrific, upscale company that will be a great addition to Evergreen Walk and draw more people to the whole Buckland Hills area,” Finguerra said. “We’re under construction now with the site work that we have to do for the hotel, and the next phase should begin by spring.”
Finguerra said the "master plan" of the new development would add an additional 350,000 square feet of retail space, another 140-room hotel, 250,000 square feet of office buildings, 200 apartment units and a 30,000-square foot health and fitness facility similar to the already existing LA Fitness at Evergreen Walk.
“I’m very excited about this," said South Windsor Mayor Saud Anwar. "The hotel is an excellent addition that will increase the value of Evergreen Walk and attract more businesses. If you look at where the growth is occurring in Connecticut, it’s clear that most of it is in eastern part of the state and South Windsor’s location is perfect for accommodating the growth.”
