Bond Commission Approves $3.2 Million in Projects for Manchester

When the State Bond Commission met Friday, April 26, 2013, it approved three projects in Manchester that total $3.2 million.

The first was a $3 million bond to help Community Health Resources (CHR) construct a 30,000-square-foot office building at 444 Center St., the site of the former Willie’s Steak House across from the Manchester Superior Court. The building will cost $6.75 million total, and is intended to consolidate a number of services that CHR currently operates throughout town.

“For more than five decades, CHR has been providing high quality services to children, adults and families who struggle with mental health and substance abuse issues,” State Rep. Jason Rojas, a Democrat who represents parts of Manchester and East Hartford, said in a statement. “Since the Newtown tragedy, there has been a much needed focus on improving access to mental health services. With these new resources CHR can expand access to many of our neighbors in Manchester and East Hartford who need it.”

The commission also approved a $75,000 state grant to reconstruct the parking lot at Pathfinders Association of Manchester on Norman Street.

“Pathfinders has been providing meeting space for people in recovery since the 1940s and plays an essential role in mental health,” State Rep. Joe Diminico, a Democrat who represents parts of Manchester and Glastonbury, said in a statement. “As much as we can, we need to help non-profit agencies that are dedicated to helping everyone in our community. Strengthening mental health services will go a long way in building a strong and healthy community.”

The commission also approved $150,000 for drainage and site improvements at Manchester Superior Court building at 410 Center St.
