Hearing on Crockett's Remarks Postponed Indefinitely

A hearing to possibly censure Board of Education member Michael Crockett has been postponed indefinitely, according to an email sent by Board of Education Chairman Chris Pattacini to other board members.

The school board unanimously voted May 28, 2013, to hold the hearing as part of a special meeting to discuss a series of racially inappropriate and insensitive remarks Crockett is alleged to have made against another school board member, Ron Atwater, and a potential candidate for the vacant superintendent position.

Atwater is the only black member of the school board.

Crockett publicly apologized for the remarks at the June 10, 2013, meeting of the Board of Education.

Pattacini sent the email postponing the meeting the next day. "The postponement would afford the board an opportunity, if it so chooses, to rescind the motion made on May 28th at our next regularly scheduled meeting, to be held on June 24."
