Board of Directors Declines to Discuss Broad Street Eminent Domain Amendment

The Manchester Redevelopment Agency unanimously approved an amendment to the Broad Street Redevelopment Plan last week that would give the town the ability to acquire property in the area through eminent domain, but the Board of Directors opted not to hold a public hearing on the issue Tuesday, May 7, 2013.

General Manager Scott Shanley said the reason the item was removed from the agenda was because of an incorrect public notice.

"The reason that this is not being discussed tonight is that the public notice you saw in the newspaper, twice, is basically flawed. It's incorrect," Shanley said. "...It doesn't have anything to do with any conspiracy."

During the public portion comment of the meeting, several residents and business owners on Broad Street spoke out in opposition of the proposal.
