A Date to Remember! (Or two, or three)...

As our summer vacations are coming to a close (12 days!  Aha!), incoming sixth graders have begun to receive their team information in the mail.  With baited breath, they’re waiting by the mailbox.  What  team are we on? Are we on the same team as our friends?  From those who have tread before us, we have learned that the likelihood of being placed with more than a small  handful of students your child already knows is highly unlikely.  With nine elementary schools intersecting at Bennet, the world is about to get much bigger!

The dates are starting to fill up on the calendar with school happenings, too.

On August 22 at noon, Bennet Academy will offer a tour of Bennet along with a short orientation for parents/guardians who have not yet had the opportunity to see the school.  You must call the office to register at (860) 647-3571.

Obviously August 28 is the biggest date to remember as the first day of school (I say obviously because if you’re like me you’ll be celebrating with a glass of champagne the second the bus pulls away from the stop, even if it is only 7:45 in the morning).

September 10 at 7pm is a big one, too, as it’s the first Bennet PTSA meeting of the year.  The first meeting is always the best attended, and we sincerely hope before you get too busy, you’ll make this meeting and become a member – we need members to vote in the current board – because without this, there will be no Bennet Academy PTSA!  Becoming a member has extra benefits this year – CT PTA has partnered with Staples to offer all PTSA members the chance to save money on all their purchases after activating their membership cards!  Not bad for $10 for the year!

School photo day is scheduled for September 11.  PTSA reminds you to mark picture day on the calendar so you and your child have time to select an outfit that looks good, is comfortable and reflects your child’s personality.  Remember, the focus of the portrait should be your child’s face, not the clothing!  Solid color, long sleeved shirts with no slogans are best.  Help your child not regret their clothing decision years from now when they’re flipping through the family photo album!

Open house at Bennet is September 17 and 18 depending on what building your child is in (Franklin or Barnard).  More information about that will be coming shortly- but keep in mind you’ll be able to join PTSA at the open house as well as have the opportunity to purchase Spirit Wear with the Bennet logo to show your pride!
