Onyx Moonshine to Host Hartford Area Wing Eating Contest

Onyx Moonshine is looking to find "Connecticut's best hot wing eaters."

The following is a press release from the Onyx Spirits Company:

Connecticut moonshine producer Onyx Spirits Company will be holding their second annual Hot Wing Eating Contest this Saturday, October 5th. Taqueria Tavern, located at 140 Park Road in West Hartford, will host the competition.

The event starts at 6:00 p.m. with the contest beginning at seven. There will be two categories this year: who can eat the hottest wing and who can consume the most wings in a set amount of time. Trip-L-Dee of the Hartford Roller Area Derby is the MC for the evening and Onyx Moonshine cocktail specials will be available all night long.

“This year our hottest wing sauce has a Scoville Scale rating of almost 2 million,” said Taqueria Tavern general manager David Blanck. “It will be fun to see who can handle the heat, and of course, our hot sauces will be made with Onyx Moonshine.”

“Onyx Moonshine actually makes a really delicious wing sauce,” said Onyx Spirit’s Events and Promotions Coordinator, Rachael Forker. “We’re also excited to debut our all new Apple Honey seasonal Moonshine made with Connecticut grown Honeycrisp apples,” she added.

There is a $10 fee for participants with half of the proceeds donated to the ALS Foundation on behalf of Daniel D. Gardner. The event is open to the public and is free for non-participants and spectators. Contestants will each get custom moonshine jar glass.  The winners will receive an Onyx Moonshine prize pack and a gift card for dinner to Taqueria Tavern.
