Historical Society Open House

On Saturday, December 4, a variety of Open Houses will take place of the Historical Society properties. This free event features special activities and decor at historical properties in the Cheney Brothers district.

  • Visit the Cheney Homestead, 106 Hartford Road, from 11:00am - 2:00pm, where the Fireside Patriots, Civil War-era interpreters, will demonstrate life in the nineteenth century, presenting a living history throughout the open house.
  • Visit the Manchester History Center, 175 Pine Street, from 11:00am - 2:00pm, the former Cheney machine shop, where equipment was made and repaired during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Students from the MusicMakers Academy will present a free harp concert at 1:00pm.
  • Visit the Old Manchester Museum, 126 Cedar Street, from 10:00am - 4:00pm featuring a bake sale, seasonal exhibits and maps of Manchester. Both the History Center and the Museum have museum stores with books, note cards and other items of interest to local historians.
  • SHARE, the South End History, Arts, Recreation, and Education group, is sponsoring a Downtown-area open house that includes, besides the Historical Society's museums, free admission to the nearby Fire Museum and Cheney Hall, both on Hartford Road, and the Lutz Museum on South Main Street, which will all be open from 11:00am - 2:00pm, and special activities Downtown and at the Mary Cheney Library.
  • PhotoSynthesis, at 136½ Pine Street, will be open 10:00am - 5:00pm, with a photo exhibit and sale, 10 percent of whose proceeds on December 4 will be donated to the Historical Society.
