Drummer Keith Carlock to Perform at Manchester Community College

Summit Studios is bringing the Steely Dan drummer to Manchester for a clinic and performance.

Keith Carlock, considered one of the top touring drummers in the world, will appear at the SBM Charitable Auditorium on the Manchester Community College campus on Wednesday night, May 23.

The 7 p.m. show, which is presented by , in cooperation with Drum Village and , will be part clinic, part performance with a question and answers session and meet and greet to follow.

Carlock currently holds the drum chair for Steely Dan and has toured with Sting, John Mayer, James Taylor, the Blues Brothers and Faith Hill among others. The New York and Nashville based drummer who is originally from Clinton, Mississippi, recently completed a three-week clinic tour for Zildjian cymbals.

The Carlock event is the first drum clinic for Summit Studios, the Main Street music school founded in 1995 that offers instruction for virtually every instrument as well as vocals.

“We felt that this would be a good match for us to sponsor an event that promotes education and gets students excited about their instrument,” according to Summit’s Tom Deffenbaugh. “This will be the largest clinic Keith will put on in the northeast.”

Carlock studied jazz at the University of North Texas and played professionally in the Dallas/Fort Worth area before moving to New York City where his career took off. He was voted the top pop, fusion, all-around drummer in Modern Drummer magazine’s 2009 reader’s poll.
