Sandra Lee's Manchester Home Nears Completion

Purple Heart Homes will hold a "Mission Complete Ceremony" on Saturday, July 27, to welcome Sandra Lee to the Manchester community.

Sandra Lee is almost Manchester's newest resident.

Purple Heart Homes, which has been building a home for the wounded Army veteran on Cornell Street in town with the help of the community for the better part of the past year, announced recently that Lee's home is almost complete and that they will be hosting a "Mission Complete Ceremony" on Saturday, July 27, to officially welcome her to the Manchester community.

"We set a goal to raise $70,000 from the community. And I am happy to report that Manchester rocks," Purple Heart Homes' Vicki Thomas said in a statement. "From all of the individual contributions and organized fund raising events we raised about $75,000. We are transparent and will provide a run down on what costs have been incurred to get the home completed as well and will provide you with a list of items that were donated including materials, labor and in kind services. All of our projects are about community and everyone living in Manchester can be extremely proud of how so many have  been with us on this journey from start to finish."

Purple Heart Homes held a volunteer update meeting at the Manchester Senior Center on Thursday, June 27, 2013, to run down where the project currently stands. According to Purple Heart Homes, the following has been done:

– Dry way is up– Tapers are finishing up this week
– Next week the floors and cabinets will go in– The week after we will begin painting the walls (we have reached out to interested volunteer groups to help with the painting)– Trim work is two weeks away – Final electrical will happen the week of July 22– A patio has been put in place– A flag pole has been donated and needs to be set up– Yard work and landscaping will be happening in the next two weeks– A fire pit has been donated and needs to be assembled

The "Mission Complete Ceremony" is scheduled for Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Lee's new Manchester home at 14 Cornell St. For more information, see the attached flyer.
