The following is a press release from Imagine Main Street

The Main Street ART Benches project is a public art initiative developed to create benches that are transformed by local artists into visually pleasing utilitarian art for the public’s enjoyment. Each bench will be unique and represent a featured theme. These ART benches will generate local resident and tourist interest as well as promote an appreciation for the arts. These one-of-a-kind ART benches will be placed along Main Street in the historic district of Manchester, CT.

Imagine Main Street is now accepting proposals from artists who wish to participate in the Main Street ART Benches project. The project is open to all artists from the acclaimed to the amatuer. Painters, sculptors, craftsmen, multi-media artists and other wildly creative people are encouraged to apply.  Each artist whose design is selected for exhibition will be provided with a bench and will be given a stipend to cover the costs of materials. Deadline for submissions is March 1, 2014.

Upon review by the Main Street ART Bench selection committee winning sketches will be chosen and the artists will be notified by March 15, 2014. The Main Street ART Benches will be unveiled in May of 2014. Each bench will have a plaque recognizing the artist and sponsor. The Main Street ART Benches will remain on display throughout the spring and summer of 2014.
