Holiday on Main Activities for Saturday

A rundown of Saturday's Holiday on Main events taking place in the downtown area.

Saturday, December 3, 2011 Holiday on Main - Visits with Santa 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mary Cheney Library, 586 Main St., Manchester Children visit with Santa and his reindeer, enjoy musical performances by the Manchester Musical Players, and partake of holiday crafts, and cookies. Bring your own camera for photos with Santa. Holiday on Main  - Downtown Activities Ice Sculpting Demonstration 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Center Memorial Park Next to the Mary Cheney Library

Watch members of the Ice Sculpting Team from Manchester Community College Culinary Program create sculptures from blocks of ice. Ice donated by Manchester Ice & Fuel.

Holiday Music, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. along Main Street. Dickens Carolers from Full Gospel Interdenominational Church will stroll the Downtown serenading shoppers and businesses.

Toy Donations, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Downtown Community Policing Office, 707 Main St. Help Santa fill his sleigh. Bring a new, unwrapped children’s toy to the Community Policing Office for distribution at the annual Holiday Christmas Party sponsored by the Blue Angels Foundation.

Downtown Holiday Open House, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., throughout the downtown at various businesses. Visit Downtown businesses for special holiday demonstrations, displays and exhibits. Look for the “Holiday Open House” poster in the window of participating businesses. Ask for a “Holiday Open House Card” listing participating businesses. Visit a minimum of four participating businesses and be eligible to win a gift certificate for $100 to the downtown restaurant of your choice!

Also on Saturday, Dec. 3…………….Ride the Old Fashioned Trolley Shuttle to “S.H.A.R.E. The Holiday.” Members of S.H.A.R.E. (South Manchester history, arts, recreation and education collaborative) have joined together to make it both fun and easy to participate in activities in the downtown and at the various institutions that make-up the S.H.A.R.E. collaborative. Just hop on board the FREE old-fashioned trolley shuttle! The shuttle will operate on Saturday, Dec. 3 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The route takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. The trolley will make stops at the following locations:

  • Mary Cheney Library, 586 Main St.
  • Corner of Main & Maple in the Downtown
  • Cheney Hall, 177 Hartford Rd.
  • Fire Museum, 230 Pine St.
  • Manchester History Center, 175 Pine St.
  • Old Manchester Museum, 126 Cedar St.
  • Cheney Homestead, 106 Hartford Rd.
  • Lutz Museum, 247 South Main St.

S.H.A.R.E. the Holiday sites and activities are as follows:

Little Theatre of Manchester presents an Afternoon Holiday Delight! Saturday, Dec. 3: Two great holiday films! Movie show times: 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be visiting at 3 p.m. for photos! Bring your own camera! Entrance fee: $5 per person – stay the whole time or just for one movie and Santa! Your choice but just one fee!

The Fire Museum Special Holiday Opening. Join us on Saturday Dec. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Visit the Museum at 230 Pine St. and enjoy the start of the Holiday season. The Museum will be decorated for the holidays. Candy Canes will be available to all children. See Fire Memorabilia and related Fire Deptartment displays for the last time this year. Lutz Children’s Museum presents Gingerbread Cookie Decorating, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Drop-in and decorate a gingerbread man. Manchester Historical Society Winter Open House. Come visit all the Historical Society properties FREE to enjoy special holiday activities, music and décor:

  • Cheney Homestead, 106 Hartford Rd., 11 AM to 2 PM;
  • Manchester History Center, 175 Pine Street, 11 AM to 2 PM
  • Old Manchester Museum, 126 Cedar Street, 10 AM to 4 PM.
