Holiday Events Planned For Saturday In Downtown Manchester

Saturday's events will include a visit with Santa, ice sculpting, gingerbread cookie decorating, holiday decorations and live music.

The following is a press release from the Downtown Manchester Special Services District: 

Visits With Santa, ice sculpting, gingerbread cookie decorating, holiday decorations, music and shopping all linked by a FREE, old fashioned trolley shuttle on Saturday, December 7th. The following holiday activities are presented by S.H.A.R.E. – the South Manchester History, Arts, Recreation and Education collaborative.

Old Fashioned Trolley Shuttle

11AM to 3PM   Hop aboard a FREE, old-fashioned trolley for holiday activities and fun. Members of the Manchester Rotary will be your trolley hosts. Look for “Trolley Stop” signs bearing the S.H.A.R.E. logo at each of the activity locations noted below.

Visits with Santa - At the Mary Cheney Library, 586 Main St. 

11AM –1PM   Visit with Santa in the Stephen Howroyd Room, Library lower level. Children visit with Santa and his reindeer, Prancer & Dancer, and enjoy holiday crafts, and cookies. Special performance of traditional holiday songs by Manchester Musical Players, while children visit with Santa. Bring your camera to capture your child’s special moment with Santa. Presented by the Manchester Public Library and the Downtown Manchester Special Services District. Ice Sculpting Demonstration - Center Memorial Park Next to Mary Cheney Library

11AM-1PM  Watch members of the Ice Sculpting Team from Manchester Community College Culinary Program create sculptures from blocks of ice. Ice donated by Manchester Ice & Fuel. For more info 860/645-2101 www.downtownmanchester.org.

Caroling by Strolling Dickens Carolers – Center Memorial Park and Aboard the Old Fashioned Trolley

11AM to 12 NOON Enjoy holiday carols by Dickens Carolers from Full Gospel Interdenominational Church as you view the ice sculpting or travel aboard the trolley to other activity sites.

Gingerbread Cookie Decorating - Lutz Children’s Museum, 247 South Main St.

1PM to 3PM   Drop-in and decorate a gingerbread man. Explore hands-on exhibits and see live animals during the regular museum hours of 12 noon to 5PM. Lutz Children's Museum, 247 South Main Street, Manchester, CT860/643-0949 www.lutzmuseum.org 

Holiday Open House - At Manchester Historical Society Properties 

10AM to 4PM  Tour all the Society’s properties FREE to enjoy music, shopping, holiday decorations and family fun.

  • The Manchester History Center, 175 Pine St.
  • Museum shop & Jingleberry Bazaar coordinated by Crimson Art Box
  • New holiday ornament debut.

The Old Manchester Museum, 126 Cedar St. – decorated in vintage holiday style.

The Cheney Homestead, 106 Hartford Rd. – decorated for the holidays by the Manchester Garden Club.
