Healthy Opportunites at Manchester Day for Health

This Saturday, the town will be hosting a Day for Health to provide necessary services to those who do not have adequate health insurance.

For the residents of Manchester who can't meet medical needs on their own, Saturday, April 16 is definitely a date to mark on the calendar. The Manchester Day for Health will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manchester Community Health Services, 150 North Main St., and will fulfill the medical and dental needs of those who qualify.

Unlike events in the past which have only provided dental check ups, the Manchester Day for Health has services that expand into medical coverage.  Not only will general medical screenings be provided, but also behavioral health and sexually transmitted disease screenings. The day will also include dental cleanings, fillings, and extractions.

State Sen. Steve Cassano, one of the Democrats from Manchester who has helped create the event, describes the services provided as "real, optimum check ups" for residents who need them. Cassano, who in the past has helped put $15,000 into dental equipment for local health care events, believes that days like these will always be necessary even with the upcoming federal health care reform laws.

Cassano and other representatives also stress that due to limited time and equipment, absolutely no walk-ins will be accepted to the event. People who wish to take advantage of the services must register beforehand, Cassano stressed, and the event is only open to those who qualify as uninsured or under-insured.

Residents can register for the Manchester Day for Health by calling 860-528-1359, Extension 114. The event is only open to the uninsured and under-insured, and residents must provide proper identification. The town of Manchester will provide transportation to those who need it, and arrangements can be made by calling 860-647-3211.
