"5 Things You Need to Know About..." Promotions, Planning Meetings and Teen Driving Awards

Five local highlights for Monday, April 4.

1. Manchester Police Lieutenant Jeff Lampson, Sergeant Mike Ilewicz, and Detective Dave Miele were sworn-in to their new positions at a private ceremony in January, but the to honor their accomplishments was last Friday. Manchester Patch was on the scene to take pictures and capture the moment. 

2. The Red Cross will host a blood drive at the Knights of Columbus hall at 1831 Main St. in East Hartford Monday from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Call 1-800-RED-CROSS for more information or to make an appointment. 

3. Manchester Community College held its An Evening of Fine Wines fundraiser and auction Friday evening, which was attended by about 700 people. MCC officials said they hoped to raise about $150,000 on the evening for scholarships and programs.

4. The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Lincoln Center Hearing Room to review, among other things, TD Bank's application to demolish its current building at 180 Demming St. and build a new 3,800-square foot structure with four drive through lanes in its place. 5. And students from Howell Cheney Technical High School are up for the Monday evening and the chance to bring the top prize of $4,000 back to the high school. The event will be held at the Travelers Claim U Training Facility, 99 Lamberton Road, Windsor, CT. The dinner begins at 5:15 p.m. and the ceremony follows at 6:15 p.m.
