"5 Things You Need to Know About..." Malloy's Visit, School Uniforms, and Hiring and Retaining the Right People

Local highlights for Tuesday, March 29.

1. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy brings his series of town hall meetings to Manchester Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Manchester Community College.

Since , Malloy has been traveling around the state holding these meetings (Tuesday's will be his 12th of 19 scheduled stops), where he meets with Connecticut residents in an open forum to discuss his proposal and hear feedback.

2. And speaking of Malloy, the governor's office issued a statement Monday that Connecticut's rainwater is testing normal, after the federal Environmental Protection Agency found low levels of radio active material in rain water tested in Massachusetts last week, believed to be tied to Japan's nuclear crisis.

“There have been a number of reports in the news about low levels of radiation found elsewhere in the country as a result of Japan’s earthquake and subsequent tsunami and its effect on nuclear power plants there,” Malloy said. “But at this point, our routine testing shows no concern for public health. Even in other states where trace amounts of radiation have been detected, it’s not at levels high enough to impact health and welfare. We will continue to be aware and alert while monitoring the situation.”

3. Uniforms, or a "uniformed dress," could soon be coming to Arthur H. Illing Middle School. The Board of Education heard a presentation on such a proposal as part of its meeting Monday evening and seemed - no pun intended - uniformly supportive of the idea.
