"5 Things You Need to Know About..." Budgets, Baseball, and Broad Street Redevelopment

The governor and Democratic leaders came to an agreement on a budget, East Catholic pulled out a squeaker in baseball, and Broad Street looks to be getting money for redevelopment efforts.

1. Connecticut residents may have grown accustomed to all the acrimony and nail-biting down-to-the-wire theatrics when it comes to the state's budget in recent years, but an agreement reached late Wednesday between Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and congregational Democratic leaders appears to have positioned Connecticut to adopt its earliest budget . 

2. The East Catholic High School baseball team in a 1-0 pitching duel Wednesday, with the only run coming on a rare passed ball. 

While celebrated 200th career win recently and is hoping to take the Cougars to their fourth straight Junior College World Series.

3. Manchester Police are investigating a situation that took Wednesday morning when three men broke into the Squire Village apartment complex, and then forcibly entered an apartment where three children were sleeping. Police say the suspects herded the children into a separate room and proceeded to punch holes in the apartment's walls, until a neighbor called the authorities. Early indications, according to police, are that the suspects were searching for drugs.

5. And the Manchester Redevelopment Agency will meet at 7:30 a.m. Thursday - yes, 7:30 a.m. - in the Lincoln Center Hearing Room to continue to discuss and plan efforts to redevelop the Broad Street area of town. Revitalization efforts might have gotten a big push Wednesday when Gov. Malloy announced he planned to place for reconstruction of a portion of Broad Street on the agenda of the next meeting of the state Bond Commission later this month.
