"5 Things You Need to Know About..." Arrest Reports, Pride in Manchester, and Being a Zombie

Local highlights for Thursday, March 24.

1. The Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive at the North United Methodist Church, 300 Parker St., from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. You can go to find a list of local blood drives in the area over the next several months. 

2. The Board of Directors will hold a Budget Workshop Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Center Hearing Room to review the proposed budgets of the Library, Information Systems and General Government expenses for the 2011-12 fiscal year. 

3. How much information do the police have to provide you with after you've been arrested? It's a good question, and one the town of Manchester is currently battling it out over with the state's Freedom of Information Commission. A on the issue was held in Hartford on Wednesday, but doesn't appear as though it will be resolved any time soon.

4. Planning for the town-sponsored Pride in Manchester Week, June 4 through June 12, is . This year will be the celebration's 20th year, and all indications are that it could be the biggest and best iteration of Pride in Manchester yet. 

5. And have you ever wanted to be a zombie? Seriously. Well, if you have, then you might be in luck, because Synthetic Cinema International will be at Manchester Community College this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The film is scheduled to shoot in the Mystic area over the summer.
