School Nutrition Association of Connecticut To Celebrate National School Breakfast Week; March 3-7

This week, the School Nutrition Association of Connecticut (SNACT) along with school districts across the country are promoting National School Breakfast Week (March 3-7) by hosting “Take Time for School Breakfast” celebrations designed to highlight the importance of eating a balanced school breakfast.

Research shows starting the day with a school breakfast can lead to improved classroom behavior and achievement. With hectic morning schedules, more students than ever are taking the time for school breakfast and getting the nutrition they need to make the most of their busy school days.

This year’s theme, “Take Time for School Breakfast,” promotes the benefits of school breakfast programs and encourages parents to take advantage of this service as a time-saving option for busy mornings. With new nutrition standards being implemented for school meals, students are exposed to more whole grains and fruit at breakfast, while fat and sodium are limited.

We are working to help more students make time for breakfast and provide alternative breakfast options for busy families,” said Trish Molloy, President, School Nutrition Association of Connecticut (SNACT). “Whether it's traditional breakfast in the cafeteria, breakfast in the classroom, or grab and go services, school breakfast programs are convenient and nutritious!”

“Take Time for School Breakfast” was created by the non-profit School Nutrition Association with support from Kellogg’s Foodservice. Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, Nation School Breakfast Week was launched in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the School Breakfast Program (SBP) to all children and to promote the links between eating a good breakfast, academic achievement and healthy lifestyles.
