Former Ct. Lt. Governor, Fred Doocy Honored

On July 1, 2013 at Arbors of Hop Brook Retirement Community in Manchester, former Connecticut Lt. Governor, Fred Doocy was honored for his very active and illustrious career in private industry as well as public service. In attendance were Congressman John Larson, State Senator Steve Cassano and Paul Liistro the President of the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities and Managing Partner of Arbors of Hop Brook, Manchester Manor & Vernon Manor Health Care Center.

           Initially, Fred Doocy established himself as a banker with a reputation for knowing the right investment. He started his career with the Hartford National Bank.  He was elected to the State Senate in 1958. He continued his duties when he was elected President Pro Tem of the State of Connecticut Senate in 1963. While holding this position he was also chairman of the Roads and Bridges Committee, which was responsible for the expansion of Connecticut’s highway system.   Doocy assumed the position of Lt. Governor in 1966 following the resignation of Samuel Tedesco. He served for one year in this position. Following his term, Doocy served on several commissions including the Connecticut Development Commission.

            Fred Doocy, who celebrated his 100th birthday on May 5, 2013, devoted his time, energy, and service to the local community, the state of Connecticut, and the federal government. His contributions are greatly appreciated and the recognition he received at this ceremony formally honored his remarkable career.
