Assumption School Takes to the Streets ... Sisters and Families "Talk the Talk & Walk the Walk" through Manchester Neighborhoods

Hoping to raise awareness of the outstanding educational opportunities offered at Assumption School in Manchester, organizers and supporters “talked the talk and walked the walk” from one end of Manchester to the other on Saturday, August 10, during the school’s first Neighborhood Walk event.

In a twist on back-to-school shopping aimed at promoting Assumption School’s outstanding academic program and its welcoming environment that encourages Christian virtues and family values, an enthusiastic group met for a pep rally before taking to the streets.

"We are following the example of our new Pope Francis by reaching out to meet people where they are," said Marguerite Ouellette, principal.

With the new school year just starting, and recognizing that Manchester families, like families everywhere, seek information about the most stable and nurturing school environments for their children, organizers made plans for the day-long event.

The walk was designed to be a positive step in helping parents and guardians who seek school information that will enable them to make the best choice for their child or children. Walkers shared first-hand information about their experiences at Assumption School, the school’s brochure, and statistics documenting the school’s long record of academic excellence. They also shared an important message regarding the availability of financial assistance for the upcoming academic year.

"This year, no student will be turned away for financial reasons," said Ms. Ouellette. "This presents a great opportunity to share our wonderful environment and excellent academic program with additional families."

Following the walk, teams reconvened for an indoor picnic at the Assumption church hall that featured a star-spangled motif, delicious picnic fare, and ice cream sundaes.

While not every home within Manchester’s designated 27.7 square miles was visited this year, for a first-time event, organizers and walkers agreed it was a success.  Residents were welcoming and interested, even if they did not have an elementary-aged child, or were well established in another school. Many offered to take materials to distribute among families and friends.

Enrollment and other information about Assumption School can be obtained on the school’s website at assumptionschoolct.com or by calling Ms. Marguerite Ouellette at 860-649-0889.

Assumption School is fully NEASC accredited and part of the Church of the Assumption within the Archdiocese of Hartford. Its main campus, located at 27 South Adams Street, serves pre-kindergarten through grade 5; the high school prep campus at 47 Ludlow Road serves students in grades 6 through 8.
