The Walking Book Club of Manchester Public Library at 586 Main Street will have its next meeting on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024.
The book club starts promptly at 2:00 p.m. in the Mary Cheney Library Lobby. Attendees will take a two mile walk in the vicinity of the library, making stops for discussion. We will walk rain or shine, but in extreme weather, please call the library at 860-645-0821. On May 2nd we will discuss “This Is How You Lose the Time War” by Amal El-Mohtar.
No registration is required for this free program. Copies of the book will be available at both library buildings. The Manchester Public Library will be having a “Woven Mandala Craft” event on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at the Whiton Branch Library on 100 North Main Street.

Hartford Funny Bone Comedy Club and Restaurant

Craig was the standout “Unrepped New Face” at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. He was born in Los Angeles to a Mexican mother and an angry white father growing up with a lot of baseball and illegal fireworks. Conant is now sober, (despite the look on his face), and recently appeared on MTV’s “Greatest Party Story Ever Told” where he received accolades for his unique comedic voice. Beth Sholom B’nai Israel will have Nina Jacobs, a holocaust survivor, as their speaker for Yom HaShoah; Holocaust Remembrance Day. Ms. Jacobs will speak on her experience of the holocaust as a child in Poland. This is an educational event about the ways that discriminatory laws, organized violence, and persecution threatened those who identified as Jewish, and how it changed Nina Jacobs’ life. 
The event will take place from 7:30pm to 9:00pm at Beth Sholom B’nai Israel, 400 Middle Turnpike East, Manchester, CT. Her presentation will follow a brief evening service (evening service beginning at 7:00pm) with refreshments served afterwards. This event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required by Sunday, May 5th. Security will be present.

The Manchester Public Library is pleased to host Keith Nielsen, costume designer for multiple Hallmark movies as well as various TV, film, and theater productions for “In Conversation with Keith Costumes” on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at the Whiton Branch Library on 100 North Main Street.
Nielsen, a Manchester resident now based in New York City, has worked on costume design for the Hallmark Channel’s A Merry Scottish Christmas, Where Are You Christmas?, A Biltmore Christmas, and Mystic Christmas, the latter of which is set in Mystic, Connecticut. He also designed costumes for the Amazon Prime TV series Mozart in the Jungle, the Westchester Broadway Theater, and other TV, film, and theater productions. With over 32 design credits to his name, he has draped the glittering stars of Hollywood in his exquisite creations, from the illustrious Christopher Lloyd to the captivating Ann-Margret. The spotlight of his genius has also graced the Radio City Rockettes, casting them in a dazzling array of 1950s attire that captivated audiences in 2022’s A Holiday Spectacular. In a panel moderated by his former art teacher Sharon Cavanaugh of the Connecticut Art School, Keith will talk about his experiences designing costumes and will also share sketches, video, pictures, and costumes he’s created. A Q&amp;A session will follow the panel.

Finesse Mitchell has been seen almost everywhere. He’s currently on Hulu’s History Of The World Part II playing the Rev. Jesse Jackson opposite of Wanda Sykes. He’s guest-hosted for The Wendy Williams talk show on Fox. He’s a guest judge on Netflix’s, “Is It Cake?”, a favorite celeb guest on Pictionary, and Fox’s last Lego-Masters Bricktacular holiday event.
Finesse has been a multi-faceted actor, author, and stand-up comedian with four one-hour comedy specials titled, “Snap Famous”, “One Man Monster”, “The Spirit Told Me To Tell You” and 2023’s self-produced “Slightly Offensive” under his belt.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Finesse graduated from the University of Miami and is a distinguished member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He is also a former student-athlete who was a walk-on for the National Champion Hurricanes football team where he played Hurricane greats like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Warren Sapp, and Ray Lewis.
Finesse entered the comedy scene in 1999 with appearances on BET’s Comic View and Comedy Central. In 2003, he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live for three seasons where he played the memorable “Starrkeisha” and frequently appeared on “Weekend Update” with Seth Myers as Morgan Freeman, 50 Cent, and Bobby Brown. In addition to being an SNL Alum, his other television acting credits include NBC’s Kenan, Fox’s Outmatched, ABC’s Splitting Up Together, Showtime’s Roadies,
Disney Channel’s A.N.T. Farm (China’s Dad), and TBS Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns.
Mitchell has also appeared on daytime talk shows such as The Talk on CBS, The Drew Barrymore Show, The Real, Dish Nation, and NBC’s Today Show. During late-night, you might have seen him on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The
Late Show with Seth Meyers, The Arsenio Hall Show, and Comic’s Unleashed just to name a few. You can also catch Finesse starring in movies like Mad Money, Who’s Your Caddy, The Comebacks, and Mad Families. In 2022, Mitchell starred in OWN’s holiday Christmas movie, “Great Holiday Bake War” with more feature film projects on the way.
Finesse resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Adris Debarge, and their two daughters, Elle and Eva Mitchell.
