Manchester K-9 Units to Greet Children at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center
The event, held Thursday at the children's hospital in Hartford, will allow officers to show their appreciation for helping to name two new dogs.
When the Manchester Police Department needed names for their two new K-9s, they turned to the children of the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for help.
Thursday, Sept. 22, the department will show its appreciation for helping name their two newest dogs by holding a "meet and greet" event at the hospital, located at 282 Washington St. in Hartford, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Oh, and the names that were selected?
Well, after receiving more than 700 vote cards from children and their families, the department settled on the names Kane and Jax in April.
Since then, Kane and Jax have successfully completed their K-9 Police Academy and are currently serving the town of Manchester as deputized police dogs. Kane is partnered with Officer Joshua Eastwood, while Jax's partner is Michael Magrey.
Thank you cards featuring the two new K-9 teams will be distributed Thursday at the children's hospital. Children that did vote in April were also able to provide a valid email address on the bottom of their voter cards, and the department has said it will also distribute digital photo thank you cards via the email addresses provided. Anyone interested in receiving a digital photo card can email K9@manchesterct.gov.
